I’m so thrilled to receive this "Seeds for Success" grant. I am grateful for the funds, which I’ll use to develop my first products. I’m grateful for the web site design and development help from Yahoo! This will allow me to promote, sell, and communicate with consumers around the world. What I am most grateful for, though, is the opportunity to receive mentoring from top business advisors. The business knowledge they’ll share will be immeasurable. I don't know of any entrepreneur who has ever started a company with all of these resources. I feel so blessed.

First Tradeshow in Chicago

November 25th, 2008

It is Sunday night and I just wanted to give a quick update on how Head 2 Toe Publications’ premier went at the American Speech and Hearing Convention in Chicago. It was a huge success! I flew Amy in for the conference so she could hear the great feedback I hear all the time. I wanted her to be encouraged since she worked so hard on creating the idea and co writing the book with me. During my flight to Chicago on Wednesday morning, I read the book 7 Practices of Effective Ministry. My dad had given me this book and said that I would learn some great advice on how to have an effective business. Dad is right again! When I met up with Amy at Midway airport, I told her that we were going to have our celebration dinner tonight (Wednesday) before ASHA began. Most companies celebrate after the show but I decided that we should kick off our first show with a celebration. It also gave me a chance to sit and share the company goals with her.

We exhibited for 3 days from 9am-5pm and each day we were busy. We had a lot of positive feedback and constant flow. After hearing people walk by and say, “H2T” or “That’s that company I was telling you about.” this made me so glad that I took the advice of my mentors about branding. I am also glad that I made decisions based on my knowledge because it paid off. Amy kept saying that she was so glad to be there because it was all real to her now. I was also approached about distributing in the United Kingdom. I can’t believe that our very first product will be featured this summer in the UK.

There is so much to be thankful for. I might not have won the final prize of the Seeds for Success contest but I would not have been able to go to Chicago for our first tradeshow. I feel like a winner! Once again, I am reminded that it is so important to focus on the positive or you might miss the obvious blessings in front of you.
